I’d like to take this opportunity to share with you some news and events coming from Silver Creek High School. In this update you will find information on our school construction project, important dates, upcoming events, new hires, new initiatives, and accolades.
We have been working very hard in defining the new classrooms that are to be refurbished or constructed in the next year. The purpose of this project, so generously supported by our community, is to develop new classrooms to accommodate for our growth in student enrollment and design state of the art science classrooms. The buildout will allow for construction of four very well equipped science wet labs providing dedicated laboratory and classroom space, additional science classrooms and additional general classrooms. Recently we said goodbye to Ms. Sinclair as she moved on to Georgia. In her departure we have had two new teachers joining us in Student Services, Mr. Blair and Ms. Howard. Mr. Blair will be teaching Literacy Classes, Life Decisions and Co-Teaching in English. Ms. Howard will be teaching Literacy Classes and Co-Teaching in Math. We have also hired additional paraprofessionals and would like to welcome Ms. Choksey, Ms. Huston and Ms. Smith. We look forward to all of our new staff members providing academic leadership and support within Silver Creek.
Recently, you’ve had an email or two for our Naviance system. If you have not had your child show you this system, please do so. Naviance is as close as you can get for a one stop shop for college and career investigation. With all colleges in the United States represented on this site, 10,000 scholarships, interest inventories and information on thousands of careers, Naviance is a powerful tool! This system is also being used to distribute student transcripts, warehouse letters of recommendation and has many other uses such as resume development, college search and gap year information. If you have a senior, please ask them about Naviance!
Speaking of seniors, Josten’s has provided the senior presentation on Graduation. Information regarding caps, gowns, announcements and other items took place on October 9. Your senior has this information and the you may visit the Josten’s website for further information. Cap and gown measurements are coming, is your senior ready? Additionally, if you have a senior you may upload Yearbook photos on our website or at this LINKhttps://images.jostens.com/upload.jsp.
Help us to recognize kids and adults in our building. We are quickly expanding our student and staff member of the month awards. This program is in conjunction with Village at the Peaks as they provide our winners with dinner, movie tickets and other items. Do you know a kid or adult at Silver Creek that is making a difference, please submit their information here LINK .
Accolades and accomplishments for the month of September include two national merit semi-finalists. Athletic teams such as softball, football, cross country and soccer have been recognized as top ten teams. Our Art Club participated in the Longmont Chalk Fest. Over 150 students were trained in Sources of Strength and Rachel’s Challenge Challenge Day, helping to make our school a more supportive and inclusive environment committed to the social welfare of one another. We’ve volunteered at the annual Eaglecrest Fun Run. We’ve raised thousands for Hurricane Relief and helped to deploy Team Rubicon members into areas stricken by natural disaster. Our band has also stolen the show at St. Vrain Band Night. Thank you to our students, volunteers, sponsors, coaches, teachers and parents for helping us to create such an environment of success.
In the next month we host visitors from China and the Ukraine who will be here to observe and celebrate the accomplishments of our Leadership Academy as well as sign an international trade agreement between Zometool (a local Longmont company) and their Chinese distribution partner. Our students will once again be taking center stage in orchestrating and officiating such events.
