Principal’s Update 8/26/22

Our kids are off to a great start this school year!  Thank you for fueling them up each day and being ready to learn.  Preliminary indicators from the state of Colorado show that Silver Creek students have performed with excellence on the spring of 2022 assessments, outpacing the district and state averages.  In fact, our kids are showing great graduation rates at or above 95% the past two years, pacing St. Vrain and well above the state average.

As our 9th grade began the year, they committed to graduate on time in four years.  Freshmen parents, we look forward to celebrating with you May 23, 2026.  A little early, I know, but never too early to commit and invest in your future.   Class of 2023, please be aware that in Advisory and English 12 we are covering vital information for the collegiate processes these first two months.  Senior parents, please be asking your child about brag sheets, letters of recommendation and get those senior pictures in by November.  Sophomores and Juniors, make the most of this time by doing your best in classes, taking part in service based opportunities, getting involved with a club and keeping your eyes on the prize of Graduation!

Parents, thank you for the “brake” in the morning and afternoons.  You are doing a great job with traffic flow and keeping kids safe.  We appreciate your patience and support as we dial in traffic patterns.  With new student drivers and new parents, know that we all have to work together for our safety during drop off and pick up.  We have also asked that student drivers use the Grandview entrance, to avoid left hand turns into the parking lot.

As we plan for this academic year, our focus is upon reading and writing everyday in every class.  In mathematics our focus is upon numeracy and mathematical reasoning.  We know that kids who have strong literacy and numeracy skills have better outcomes in high school and beyond.  Additionally, we began the school year with administrative visits to each classroom sharing the successes of our students, detailing what makes the championship team at Silver Creek and what actions work to the detriment of a championship team.  Our champion students demonstrate leadership, collaboration, self-advocacy, preparation, respect, empathy, personal responsibility, engagement, respect for self and others, integrity and hold high expectations.  We are here to support your child and look forward to their successes and accomplishments this year.

Sincerely,

Erick Finnestead
