High School Athletics Update: Boys Volleyball and Girls Lacrosse

Dear Grades 8-11 St. Vrain Students and Families,

Student engagement is an important part of any comprehensive educational experience. Accordingly, St. Vrain Valley Schools’ Department of Athletics, Activities, and Fine Arts is committed to offering a robust selection of co-curricular activities and enrichment options in every school throughout our district. We also continue to add new experiences to our current list of engagement opportunities. Toward this end, we are pleased to announce Boys Volleyball and Girls Lacrosse will be offered through the Colorado High School Activities Association (CHSAA) beginning in the 2022-2023 school year. Both Volleyball and Lacrosse take place during the spring semester. Based on a number of factors, including but not limited to, facilities, current sport offerings per school, staffing numbers, and geographical locations, the programs have been strategically placed at the following schools:

  • Niwot High School – Boys Volleyball, Spring Season
  • Mead High School – Girls Lacrosse, Spring Season

These new programs will be open to all student-athletes across St. Vrain Valley Schools. As a reminder, in ordinance with State Statute 22-32-116.5, a student may participate in activities only at the student’s school of attendance, and if their school of attendance does not offer an activity in which they wish to participate, a student may participate within the district they attend or reside.

In terms of next steps, there will be a voluntary informational meeting for student-athletes and parents at each of the programs’ host school sites where families will receive an overview of the programs’ implementation during the next year. Interested families are invited to attend to learn more and ask questions.

  • Boys Volleyball Informational Meeting:
Monday, January 31 at 7:30 p.m. at Niwot High School, 8989 East Niwot Rd., Niwot, CO 80503
  • Girls Lacrosse Informational Meeting:
Monday, January 24 at 7:30 p.m. at Mead High School, 12750 County Rd. 7, Longmont, CO 80504

Thank you for your continued support of our students, teachers, and staff. This is an exciting time for our communities and we look forward to our student-athletes representing St. Vrain Valley Schools through these new programs. If you have any questions ahead of our informational meetings, please contact me directly at mcbride_chase@svvsd.org or 303-702-7915.

Sincerely,

Chase McBride, Executive Director of Activities, Athletics, Fine Arts, PE & Health
