October 13 PSAT/NMSQT Information

Dear Silver Creek Students and Families,

On Wednesday October 13, 2021 we will be administering the following assessments at Silver Creek High School:

12th Grade:  There is no assessment requirement for Seniors.  This will be an asynchronous learning day.   No scheduled classes will be in session.  It is important to check Schoology for any required course instruction and assignments!

11th Grade:  All juniors will participate in the PSAT/NMSQT.  A separate email has been shared with details for our juniors and sophomores who pre-registered by the deadline.  Plan to arrive by 7:45 a.m.  Student room assignments will be posted on October 11, 2021.

10th Grade:  All sophomores will participate in the PSAT 10 full-length practice exam or the PSAT/NMSQT (if previously registered by the deadline last week). Students taking the PSAT 10 practice exam will have raw score results following the conclusion of the exam. Plan to arrive by 7:45 a.m.  Sophomore PSAT practice exams will be held in the large and small gyms.  Bring your iPad and a pencil.

9th Grade:  All freshmen will participate in the PSAT 9 full-length practice exam.  Students will have their raw score results following the conclusion of the exam. Plan to arrive by 7:45 a.m.  Freshmen will have assigned rooms for their practice exam.  Student room assignments will be posted on October 11, 2021.  Bring your iPad and Pencil.

All Students:  After the completion of the exams, lunch will be available.  Students will be dismissed following their exams.  All students need to check Schoology for any asynchronous instruction and/or assignments.

Attendance:  October 13, 2021 is a normally scheduled school day.  With the exception of seniors, if your child will not be at school, please notify the Attendance Office to excuse their absence.

Transportation:  We will run the normal bus schedule in the morning, allowing students to arrive at school prior to 7:45 a.m.  We will run an extra bus schedule, picking up students from school at 12:20.  We will also run our standard bus schedule departing Silver Creek at 2:45 p.m.  Students are dismissed for the school day following the conclusion of their exam.

Accommodations:  Students with testing accommodations (specifically extended time) written into their IEP or 504 plan will be provided with extended-time testing rooms.  For 9th grade students who may not have this specified in their IEP or 504, it is a good exercise, with a no-risk exam, to take the standard-timed test to determine the need for accommodations. For testing accommodations other than extended time on the 9th and 10th Grade practice tests, please contact assistant principal Eric Ottem.

In addition to providing all our students ongoing preparation for the SAT, the district Assessment Office will analyze scores item by item on the Practice 9 and 10 exams across all high schools in the district and share results within two weeks. This gives teachers valuable data to address knowledge/skill gaps in individual classes. It also provides direction for those students who want to work on their own to improve their SAT scores to enhance their college admission and scholarship opportunities.

Should you have any questions please feel free to reach out to your child’s counselor or administrator.

Sincerely,

Erick Finnestead
