Principal’s Update 4/16/15

Silver Creek Community,

We have some very exciting news as of late!  Not only is graduation just a few short weeks away for the Class of 2015, we have also been busily preparing for the arrival of the Class of 2019.  Over the course of the last four years the Class of 2015 has continually proven themselves as an academic, artistic and athletic force.  This is witnessed by multiple students being awarded AP Scholar Status, achieving the greatest composite ACT score in school history (22.2), having numerous students selected for All-State Musical Performances, achieving Gold Medals at the Rocky Mountain Percussion Association, being awarded millions of dollars in scholarships, having 13 students sign letters of intent to participate in collegiate athletics, sponsoring 41 Senior Capstone projects, achieving individual and team state championships, there is just too much more to list.  The Class of 2015 has certainly left an indelibly positive mark upon the annals of Silver Creek High School.  Your work is not yet done as you finish 2015 strong!

In preparation for our incoming classes we are expanding curricula to offer International Business, Chinese Level III, AP European History, AP Physics I (Algebra Based), Speech/Debate, and Game Theory.  Not only that but our staff is hard at work incorporating IPADS into their planning and professional development.

We invite you on May 19 at 6:00 PM in our auditorium to learn about the Learning Technology Plan for 2015-2016.  At this event we will address the implementation of IPADS at Silver Creek, address questions and provide information on the deployment dates.  If you are unable to make it this evening we plan to record the presentation and post it to our website.

A big thank you to our Education Foundation for all of the hard work they have done this year in fundraising for our classrooms.  Recently, our Education Foundation has chosen to financially support the acquisition and implementation of Naviance.  In 2015-2016 every student at Silver Creek will have a Naviance account allowing them access to post-secondary services such as:  college and career curriculum, national scholarship searches, interest inventories that correlate to respective careers, majors and colleges that offer the associated degree(s).   For more information visit http://www.naviance.com

As an update to previous discussions about school start time for 2015-2016.  As of 4/16/15 we are still investigating the total financial cost and viability of moving our start time later.  We hope to have finality on this decision prior to the end of the school year.

There are some excellent upcoming events that we would love to have you be a part of.   Check out the SCLA website for information on Capstone Projects http://www.silvercreekleadership.academy

As a last reminder, with our school continuing to grow, I urge all of our student and parent drivers to exhibit a little extra patience during drop-off and pick-up.  Please follow established traffic patterns, use the roundabout as your turnaround, use the crosswalks, and keep your eyes up and cell phones down.  Your help with this will insure the safety of our community.  Thank you

My best,

Erick Finnestead
