SCHS to compete in the ‘We the People’ state finals

For the seventh consecutive year, Silver Creek High School students will be competing in the We the People state finals on December 14th at the State Capitol building.

The We the People Competition is a simulation of the congressional hearing model where students teams research and explore constitution related concepts. Students research and write a 4 minute opening statements to a posed question to then be followed by a 6 minute follow up question period by the judges. There are 6 groups or teams per rostered class from a school, the scoring for the 6 groups within a class are combined to determine the winning class. Within the state there are 7 competing districts (based upon the 7 congressional districts), Silver Creek competes in the 4th congressional district, and this year, competed against 3 other teams to make it to the finals.

Students on this year’s team are all in the AP US Government class at SCHS.

Participation in this program allows students to intensively research and discuss contemporary Constitutional issues, learn teamwork among group members, and be engaged citizens and leaders in our community and society.
