Important SCHS Counseling Information October

Greetings from the Silver Creek Counseling Department!

There are a number of items that we wanted to make students and parents aware of and we hope that this form of communication will help so that these important announcements don’t get lost in the shuffle.

On Tuesday, October 19th, 6:00-7:15pm, The College Funding Coach will offer a free web workshop to help parents understand the ways to pay for college without going broke! If you are a parent of a preschooler, a parent of a senior in high school, or a parent of anything in between, you will learn strategies to:

  • avoid jeopardizing your retirement nest egg
  • simultaneously save AND pay for college
  • pay for multiple children attending college at the same time
  • And much, much more!

This is a free virtual event; however, your registration is appreciated. Please register through this link:

We hope to see you, virtually, on Tuesday at 6PM!

Free College Application Days begin on Tuesday October 19th and go through Thursday the 21st. This is an  opportunity to have your application fees to all state colleges and most private schools waived. Seniors should have all of their parts of the application completed and ready to submit on those days in order to get the waiver. Here’s the link to the unique codes for each participating college that students will need to use when they actually submit their applications. Please note that letters of recommendation and transcripts can be submitted after the 21st but it’s the student portion of the applications that needs to be completed in order to be eligible for the waiver. A counselor will be available in the College and Career Center in the Counseling office during each block of the three days if students need help with their applications or have other questions.

AP Test Registration Has Begun!

The registration window is Oct. 11 – Nov. 8. Access RevTrak’s AP Registration site to register for each test you plan to take. Test fees are $96 each ($144 for AP Seminar & Research); fee waivers are available for those qualified for the free & reduced lunch program, and assistance is available for families facing financial hardship. NOTE: This year, the $40 late registration and test cancellation fees have been reinstated.

SVVSD recently sent info to families – please reference for more details. For questions specific to SCHS, the Silver Creek AP Coordinator is Barb Norrbom.

College Night a Success! – Thank you to our students and parents that attended College Night on the evening of Oct. 12! As promised here is the College Night slide deck. The information is accessible to all through embedded links within the slide deck. Topics covered include: College candidacy; info and support for the college application process; the role of Naviance and its necessary components; SAT/ACT; financial aid & scholarship basics; and the NCAA process for athletes.
