I’d like to take some time in, likely a long overdue, recognition to some of the great things occurring at Silver Creek High School. While running a small city of teenagers it may be easy to focus on some of the poor decisions or challenges we all face with high school life. Bye and large our kids continue to achieve at unprecedented levels in the classroom, in the arts, in leadership and in athletics!
If “all the world’s a stage,” as William Shakespeare so eloquently put it, then St. Vrain Valley Schools’ high schools are taking a cue from the Bard of Avon himself. From stage classics like Cabaret and A Midsummer Night’s Dream to the Colorado premier of Catch Me if You Can, St. Vrain Valley high schools are using its theater programs to instill not only a love and appreciation of live performance on its students, but build a foundation of skills and talents that are useful offstage as well.
St. Vrain Valley District students today are a tech-savvy generation who know their way around apps and mobile devices. But SVVSD educators are ensuring that students have a strong foundation in computer science beyond the touchscreen, covering areas like innovation, problem-solving and critical-thinking skills, and what it means to be a good digital citizen.
We have had a tremendous fall at Silver Creek! With a successful 1:1 rollout, many academic, athletic and artistic successes, and accolades that continue to pour in; it reminds me of a saying a colleague used to share with me. “Yes, but it’s high school and the day is not over yet.” My response, “Yes, and look at how much more we can accomplish!”
Augustana University in Sioux Falls, South Dakota announced today a new scholarship specifically designed for Silver Creek Leadership Academy graduates. This scholarship is available to any SCLA graduate with a composite ACT of 25 or higher and a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher.
