Let us take a moment to provide for our Fall Update and share several of the successes happening this Fall at Silver Creek. Our kids have been in the full swing of things and we invite you to be our guest at some upcoming events! Hats off to the Performing Arts Department and their recent successes in hosting live concerts! Orchestra and Choir have both given terrific performances this October. On 10/27/21 our Band takes the stage at 7:00 p.m., join us. After a terrific St. Vrain Band Night, our Marching Band has supported our school community at Pep Rallies, football games and soccer matches. Catch them in action again at the Longmont Halloween Parade this weekend. Want to see all three groups in action? The Madrigal makes it return on December 3 and 4, more information on ticket ordering in the next two weeks. The Silver Creek Theater Department is performing Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing, catch Performances on November 12 and 13.
Our teachers have been hard at work supporting kids in the classroom and beyond the classroom. This fall we launched FREE drop-in tutoring in English, Mathematics, Science and Spanish on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 3:00 – 4:00 p.m. in the library. New classes have been added to Silver Creek including RaptorTech Collegiate Cybersecurity courses, Co-taught English 12 and Lifeguarding. Interested in Lifeguarding for the second semester, submit your name to your counselor, space is very limited. In 2022-2023 we will be adding Geology, Astronomy and Introduction to Instrumental Music (for those wishing to learn an instrument and join an orchestra or band in high school).
Our SCLA 12th Graders have 42 capstone projects positively impacting schools, the community and beyond. Our Environmental Club is launching a composting program in conjunction with Eco-Cycle, and Silver Creek will become the first Green Star High School in St. Vrain. Advanced Placement Research students will conduct over 30 authentic research projects, contributing to a new body of research and allowing them to earn an AP Diploma. Recently, a former graduate’s AP Research on the harmful effects of social media was featured in the Longmont Leader. Our seniors have been feverishly working on college essays and applications between their English 12 and Advisory classes. Student participation in our Fall PSAT and practice exams was excellent. Did you know Silver Creek was the highest achieving school amongst all St. Vrain Schools in 2021? Keep it up Raptors, you’re doing a great job, and all that hard work pays off! The competitive advantage you graduate with, comes from the dedication and effort you put in right now.
We’ve enjoyed watching our fall sports teams compete. Several students have been acknowledged as All-Conference athletes. Be on the lookout for Mr. DeCamillis’ Fall Athletics Wrapup. Great job to our Boy’s Golf, Boy’s Tennis (Co-League Champs), Girl’s Cross Country (League Champs), Boy’s Cross Country, Boy’s Soccer (League Champs), Football (in the hunt for playoffs), Softball, Girl’s Volleyball and Mountain Biking Teams. Good luck to Cross Country at State this weekend and catch 5A soccer playoffs with your Raptors tonight (10/27/21) at Everly-Montgomery Field at 7:00 p.m. Football is at Brighton on Friday Night and Volleyball travels to Colorado Springs for their final tournament on Saturday. On the facilities front our Aquatics Center is nearing completion and final completion dates have been slightly bumped to mid-December. We can’t wait to celebrate and host swim meets at Silver Creek! In 2022-2023 our tennis courts are scheduled to be demolished and rebuilt upon post-tension concrete. In 2023-2024 we have been notified that artificial turf will be installed at the Silver Creek track and field area.
